Mr. Gibbs, "Coach", 78, passed away at home.

Son of the late Luke & Jessie(Parsons) Gibbs. He was a graduate of Grundy High School in Tracy City. He received a BA at Tennessee Tech and Masters at Middle Tennessee. He received a Certificate of Leadership from the University of Georgia. As an educator, he served 41 and a half years dedicated to the field of education, with 26 years served in the Franklin County School System. The last four years he served as the Franklin County superintendent of the schools. He was a member of the Cattleman's Association, the Carnesville Lions Club, the Young Farmers, Toccoa Little League, and AMIDEC. He was a member of the Franklin County Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Keys Gibbs; son David (Kay) Gibbs of Carrollton; three daughters, Lisa Gibbs of Toccoa, Fonda (Brian) Hume, of Dacula, and Shea (Mike) Wilson of Carnesville; six grandchildren, Justin, Andrew and Conner Hume, Derek and Luke Gibbs, and Brody Wilson; three brothers, Homer Gibbs of Tracy City, Everett (Nell Rose) Gibbs of Tracy City, and Gordon (Audrey) Gibbs of Selma, Ala.; two sisters, Dola (Ray) Shrum of Tracy City, Marlee (John) Nunley of Sewanee, Tenn.; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Lonnie Gibbs, Agnes Meek, McKinley Gibbs, Elzie Gibbs and Eugene Gibbs.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at the B.D. Ginn Memorial Chapel of the Ginn Funeral Home in Carnesville with Roy Neal, Mike Smith, and Jeff Davis officiating. Interment will be in the Franklin Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the Franklin County Church of Christ, the Carnesville Lions Club or to the charity of your choice
