Almon Deliot Giddens, 86, son of Oral and Sally Edwards Giddens, was born April 4, 1921, at Eldon. He died March 9, 2008, at Texas County Memorial Hospital.

He married Delta Sillyman Jan. 16, 1943, in Kansas City, Kan. They had three children.

Mr. Giddens was a World War II veteran, serving in Germany. He enjoyed cooking for the officers.

He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 32 years as a supervisor in the accounting department.

After retiring, he was a cook at the Houston Senior Center.

He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Giddens was a member of the Bucyrus Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and taught the men's Sunday School classes for several years. He also enjoyed cooking at the First Baptist and Bucyrus Baptist churches.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sisters, Coral May and Mary Whitaker; two brothers, Lory and Richard Giddens; and a grandson.

Surviving are his children, Larry Giddens and Lloyd Giddens of Houston and Joyce Topper of Peoria, Ill.; one brother, Jerry Giddens of Parson, Kan.; a sister, Jo Ann Risley of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services are 10 o'clock today (Thursday) at the Bucyrus Baptist Church with the Rev. Gordon Rhodes and the Rev. Brock Davis officiating. Burial is in the Boone Creek Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Bucyrus Baptist Church building fund.
