I don't know alot about my Paw Paw Raleigh, only stories that I've heard from my mother and her uncles. I know that he was a hard working man, driving a school bus and also building caskets. He married my Maw Maw Emily on October 25, 1921 and had 4 children, Ebbie Allie Vee, W.J. "Junior", Ruby Raye (my mother) and James Austin.

He enjoyed spending time with his 6 brothers and their families. They would often go fishing and camping together. He played the fiddle and enjoyed watching Emily dance to his music. He lost my grandmother in 1940. She died suddenly of a short illness, leaving him and 4 small children. Two years later, on a camping trip he became ill. While his children were left with their aunts, the brothers carried Raleigh to the hospital. He died of food poisning a short time later that day, leaving 4 children to live with Jim Hagan, his brother.

His life was cut too short. I wish the Lord had seen to leave him and my Maw Maw here, so I could have gotten to know them and spend time with them. I will see them in heaven and catch up on all the things grandparents and grandchildren do, someday.
