Mrs. Darnell was born Jan. 21, 1915, in Dukedom, Tenn., the daughter of Fred and Clara Ruth (Wooldridge) Farmer. She married James Forrest Darnell July 26, 1939, and he preceded her in death in 1964.
She worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk, substitute carrier and sometime postmaster. Mrs. Darnell was affiliated with Centenary United Methodist Church, Effingham, Order of the Eastern Star and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors include her daughter, Ruth (husband, John) Abell of Teutopolis; grandson, Michael Abell of Mount Vernon; granddaughter, Becky (husband, Henry) Eirich of St. Louis; and great-grandson, Alex Eirich. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Harriett.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bauer Funeral Home, Effingham.
Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Dukedom, Tenn.
