Bombardier, a gunner with 1st Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery based in Shilo, Manitoba. Aged 22, he was from Matane, Quebec. He was serving with the Canadian contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Bdr Ouellet was found dead in his sleeping quarters at the main coalition base at Kandahar Airfield. He had only deployed a few weeks earlier. Military officials said the death is not combat related but no other details were released.

He served as a reservist in the Fusiliers du St-Laurent before joining the Regular Force on June 17, 2003, and was remembered as a dedicated professional soldier. He was also a gifted artist and known for his ever-present smile and his sense of humour.

Bdr Ouellet is survived by his parents Marlčne and Denis, sister Marie-Chantale, brothers Michael and Israël, and other family members.

He is the 80th Canadian Forces member, along with a diplomat, to die in Afghanistan since 2002.

Funeral service held March 20, 2008 at St-Rédempteur Church in Matane, QC.
