John Adams, a traveling salesman of Vandalia, Illinois, en route to Alvin, Illinois, with Jesse Summers in an automobile, was struck by a Chicago & Eastern Illinois passenger train near Alvin this morning and instantly killed. Adams was driving the machine and tried to beat the engine to the crossing. Summers was but slightly injured and refused to be brought to Danville in an ambulance.
