Ernest Ellsworth Robinson was the second of seven children born to Albert Martin Robinson and his wife, Margaret Cecilia Irving and was born in Dartmouth, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Upon the death of his father in 1909, his mother married Thomas Scott. Both his mother and his step father, "Scotty" obtained their Local Preacher Licenses in Michigan.
At 17, Ernest attended a seminary in New England and subseqently joined the Salvation Army. Later, he joined the Methodist Church and worked on his degree from Albion College in Albion, Michigan. In approximately 1920, he moved to Detroit and, for more than 60 years, the Rev. Robinson served many communities and churches throughout Michigan, moving often as he received new assignments from the Church. On many Sunday mornings, the Rev. would preach at multiple churches.
On October 13, 1920, he married Emma Maude Heaslip of Ontario, Canada. Their first child, a daughter named Dorothea, was born in Seeley's Bay, Ontario. They then had three more children, Ernest E. "Junior," Reginald Roy "Red", and Barbara Jean, each born in Michigan.
The Rev. was a short, round man, with a large nose and CRAZY hair. He was an avid reader and, according to his son Red, was a "student of the bible." As they grew older, the Rev. and his wife retired to Bancroft, Michigan, but he continued to preach as a substitute minister. He and his wife avoided the harsh Michigan winters by migrating to Clearwater, Florida for the cold months.
In the late 1970's, the Rev. and his wife moved to the Boulevard Temple Methodist Home in Detroit, Michigan, where he died in 1987, several years after the death of his wife.
