Clyde R. Baker, 65, of Fayetteville RD 2, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Chambersburg Hosital at 8:45 p.m. Sunday. He had been ill since November. His death was attributed to a heart attack. Mr. Baker was born in Adams County, Nov. 12, 1911, son of the late Harry E. & Martha M. Staley Baker. All his life was lived in the South Mountain area.
Mr. Baker served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II. Following his discharge from the service he returned to his employment at the restoration center. He worked in the maintenance department there until his retirement in July 1973. He and his wife, Wilda M. Warren Baker were married in July, 1931 and had lived at the present residence for the past 30 years.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by six sons: Donald E. Baker, Arendtsville; Charles E. Baker and Leon R. Baker, both of Fayetteville RD 2; Marvin K. Baker, Absecon, N.J.; Terry C. Baker, South Mountain; and Roger L. Baker, at home. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and these brothers and sisters: Mrs. Hazel Kauffman, York; Robert Baker, Floyd Baker, Julian Baker, Mrs. Myrtle Kauffman and Lawrence Baker, all of Fayetteville RD 2; and Mrs. Bernice Wagaman, Mont Alto. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the South Mountain Bible Church. Burial will be in Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain, PA.
