Born Feb. 19, 1929, in Des Moines, he was the son of Stanley O. and Winifred E. Davey Holsinger. On Sept. 9, 1950, he married Patricia Khile in Des Moines. On Sept. 6, 1986, he married Marlene Maria Mauldin in Independence, Mo.
Mr. Holsinger was an insurance underwriter with America Fore and Allied Insurance Companies until 1969, when he joined the Army Reserve as an administrative assistant for the 830th Field Hospital at Fort Des Moines and later the 325th Field Hospital in Independence, Mo. He retired from the military in 1989 as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW4). During his career he was a paratrooper, jump master and rigger. In 1991, he was recalled to serve with Operation Desert Storm. He lived in Des Moines until 1976 and was a graduate of Roosevelt High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1946 and served in the 82nd Airborne Division.
He was a member of Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, a life member of the Orlando Chapter of the 82nd Airborne Division Association and American Legion Post 004 in Florida.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Marcia E. Holsinger of Mount Pleasant; two sons, Richard S. II "Rick" Holsinger of Ankeny and Ronald K. Holsinger of Woodward; three stepsons, Thomas Mauldin of Kansas City, Mo., Michael Mauldin of California and Stephan Mauldin of Jesup, Ga.; one granddaughter; seven stepgrandchildren; one brother, Robert G. Holsinger of Burlington, N.C.; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.
The memorial service for Mr. Holsinger will be March 7 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines.
