SUSAN HIRST WHIPPLE
Susan Hirst Whipple, a life long resident of McAlevys Fort, died Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M.B. Wright. "Aunt Sue" was known to everyone in McAlevys Fort and vicinity and there are many friends who mourn her passing. Mrs. Whipple had reached the ripe, old age of eighty-nine years most of which time was spent in Huntingdon county.
Her early education was secured at the Kishacoquillas Seminary and upon graduation she taught music for many years. She was married the first time to Van Buren Hirst of McAlevys Fort, no deceased. Her second husband was O.M. Whipple, also deceased. He served as sergeant in the Vermont Cavalry during the Civil War. She is survived by one daughter Mrs. M.B. Wright of McAlevys Fort.
She was the daughter of Jacob and Catherine (Moyer) Anspach and was born in Huntingdon county.
Mother Whipple was a devoted member of No. 951, McAlevys Fort Grange, and of the Lutheran church where she will be greatly missed. She was a great worker in both these institutions and her advice and aid will be missed by her co-workers.
For forty years she was mistress of the Central Hotel in McAlevys Fort and here she endeared herself to the hearts of many.
Funeral services will be held in the Lutheran church at McAlevys Fort on Thursday, July 7th at 10:30 a.m., conducted by her pastor, Rev Charles Stong. Interment will be made in the adjoining cemetery.
