My Uncle Everett was the second of fifteen children, ten of whom lived to adulthood. My mother, Audrey May DUTY Arnold, was his older sister.
His parents were Hattie SIMMONS Duty and Ernest Samuel Duty. Grandparents were Jefferson Simmons and Sarah ISAACKS Simmons, along with paternal grandparents, James G.A. Duty and Littia Anna WHITLOCK Duty.
Uncle Everett was the father to nine children. Uncle Everett was married to my Aunt Eva Pauline SWINNEY. They were married on April 11, 1936. Uncle Everett and Aunt Pauline had eight children together from their marriage.
In his early years, he farmed. However, he then changed careers and began working on a river boat on the Mississippi. He spent many years in that occupation before retirement.
One of his daughters helped care for him in his last days and he died in the hospital at Poplar Bluff, Missouri after having suffered a stroke. He was 71 years old.
Uncle Everett was much loved and is missed by his family and many friends.
(The first photo is of my Uncle Everett, probably, taken about the first half of 1980.)
(Second photo is of the eight children from the marriage of my Uncle Everett and Aunt Pauline--taken in 1977.)
