Ruth Beach, age 100, of 1200 East Grant Street, Macomb, passed away at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2008 at Wesley Village Healthcare Center in Macomb.
She was born on March 13, 1907 in Chenoa, Illinois the daughter of William David and Kitty Boulware Neher. She married Henry L. Beach on August 16, 1930. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents, six sisters and one brother
She is survived by 1 daughter; Peggy (Don) Scharfenberg of Macomb, and 1 son; Philip (Marge) Beach of Decatur, Illinois, six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was born to a family whose early service was to the Dunkard church until they settled in Chenoa and joined the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Beach remained active in church activities in Sterling and Macomb, belonged to the Chenoa Historical Society and Illinios Retired Teachers. She enjoyed playing bridge and celebrated her 100th birthday with a party last year.
Ruth began teaching after 2 years of college at ISU and continued her education at NIU where she received her BS in 1962. She retired from teaching in the Sterling Public Schools after 35 years, a combined 75 years as educators with her husband.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb with Rev. Amy Loving officiating. There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to the Chenoa Historical Society.
Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb is in charge of the arrangements.
