Clair Thompson, 94, of Knox, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, in Beverly Healthcare-Shippenville, the day after the funeral of his wife to whom he was married for more than 73 years. Born March 17, 1911, at Sligo RD, he was the son of Joseph Henry and Minnie McCall Thompson. Mr. Thompson was an auto mechanic for several local dealers. He began work in 1943 at Quaker State Oil Refinery as a technician in the motor lab, testing oils and gasoline. He then transferred to the wax manufacturing department until retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Wentlings Corners Community Club and the Church Hill Cemetery Association. Mr. Thompson was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his buddies, doing woodwork projects and going to the mall to visit with friends. He also enjoyed his family and helping out neighbors. Mr. Thompson was married Sept. 23, 1932, to Lorena R. "Dolly" Brinker, who died Nov. 7, 2005. Surviving are two sons, D. Budd Thompson and wife, Florence, of Knox RD and Larry Max Thompson and wife, Roseanne, of Denver, Colo.; four grandchildren, Kathy Kapp, Lisa Weeter and husband, Thomas, and Kenneth Thompson, all of Knox, and Dale Thompson and wife, Debra, of Emlenton; five stepgrandchildren, Cyndi Lynch, Douglas Buchanan, Chris Buchanan, LeAnn Hunt and Charles Buchanan; five great-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his brother, Robert; and two infant sons. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc. in Knox and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1051 Twin Church Road, Knox. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the church with the Rev. Deborah Jacobson officiating. Interment will follow in Church Hill Cemetery, Sligo. Memorial contributions may be made to Clarion-Forest VNA Hospice, Knox, 16232.
