Freeman Acres, 75, of the Pine Hill community, passed away Tuesday morning, December 17, 1985, at the Scott County Hospital following a lingering illness.

Mr. Acres was the son of the late David Acres and the late Martha Watson Acres and was also preceded in death by one son, Jimmie Howard Acres; one sister, Lousetta Strunk; and three brothers: Sherman, Herbert, and Elcaney Acres;

He was a member of the Pine Hill United Baptist Church for more than fifty years.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl Byrd Acres of the Pine Hill community; one daughter-in-law, Mable Idell Ooten Acres of Pemberton, O.; one son, James Arvil Acres of Roseburg, Ore.; four sisters: Etta Reynolds o Somerset, Ky., Ida Bell Reed of the Pine Hill community, Gertie Duncan of the Buffalo community, and Mary Warner of Cincinnati, O.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the Pine Hill United Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Friday, December 20, with Rev. James E. Marcum and Rev. Norman Burk officiating. The Pine Hill United Baptist Church and Linda and Arzo Hamby sang. Burial was in the Pine Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Darwyn Acres, David Duncan, Estel Reed, Earl Reynolds, Tony Reed, Bobby Strunk, and Ovalee Strunk. Honorary pallbearers were: Vaughn Chambers, Louton Duncan, Willie Ellis, Russell Ellis, Harold Ellis, Earl J. Sharp, Bill Strunk, Walter Stanley, and Charlie West. West-Murley Funeral Home in Oneida was in charge of the arrangements.
