Oma Turley Whitten was born Feb 20, 1882 in Coldwater, Tate Co, Mississipp. She was one of four children born to Marion DeKalb Whitten and Sarah Elizabeth Osteen. She died March 17, 1968. She was married to Henry Marshal Read and they had eight children. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, Harold Weldon Read (spouse Nell Dodson) and James Edward Read (spouse Betty Powell). She was survived by daughters Sarah Elizabeth Woosley (Chauncey), Mary Elaine Scott (Robert Carey), Susan Beckerley (James), Martha Jane Grimm (George), Barbara Ann Sprott (Frank); and son Henry Marshal Read, Jr (Ann Francis) and several grandchildren. The Reads made their home in Paris, Texas where Mr. Read was a stone cutter and City Judge. Mrs. Read was a homemaker.
