Charles "Bud" Butler

Charles Benson "Bud" Butler, 71, of Sherwood Drive, Williamstown died at 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at The Arbors at Marietta.

He was born on Feb. 11, 1934, in Parkersburg, to Ralph E. and Louise Price Butler. He graduated from high school in Maryland. Bud served during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army from March of 1953 to February of 1956. He worked for IBM in Columbus from 1959 to 1965 and then worked for Bell Atlantic as a computer service technician until his retirement in 1996. Bud was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Williamstown, was Past Master of the Masonic Lodge 129 in Williamstown, and was an Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of the Valley of Parkersburg, 32 Degree Mason. He volunteered as a crime analyst for the Williamstown Police Department after his retirement. Bud loved to play golf, be with his grandchildren and work on his tractor.

He is survived by his wife, Sally G. Ruf Butler, whom he married on June 6, 1959; also by his son, Charles "Buddy" Butler of Marietta; two grandchildren, Garret and Chelsey Butler; his brother, Gene Butler (Libby) of Williamstown; two sisters, Maureen Booth (Al) of San Antonio, Texas, and Sandy Vance (Larry) of Atlanta, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Maurice Johnson.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Williamstown, with the Rev. Steve Gedon officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:30-3:30 p.m Sunday at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the services Monday at the church.
