A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Denair Cemetery for John
Earl Jilka, 74, of Denair who died Tuesday at a local hospital after a short
illness.

Visitation is at Allen Mortuary from 4 to 9 p.m. today, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Friday, and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

A native of Kansas, he came to California in 1936 and lived in Los Angeles
before coming to Denair in 1945.

He was a heavy equipment operator for Stanislaus County for 30 years. He was a
member of the Eagles Lodge and the Antique Telephone Operators Club.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Jilka of Denair; three sons, Gerald of
Santa Cruz, Charles of Aptos and Donald of Modesto; two sisters, Mabel Chunn of
North Carolina and Emma Myrdahl of San Gabriel; a brother, Lester Jilka of
Kansas; and four grandchildren.

The family requests remembrances go to the American Heart Association,
Stanislaus-Tuolumne division, 144 Woodrow Ave., Suite 4, Modesto 85350; or to
the American Cancer Society, P. O. Bos 1002, Turlock 95380; or to a favorite
charity.
