Merritt Wheeler Egan, 87, of Idaho Falls, died January 16, 2008, at his home.
He was born November 26, 1920, in Shelton, Idaho, to Haward Erastus Egan and Nary Ethel Wheeler Egan. He grew up and attended school in the area. He served his country in World War II as a Corporal in the United States Army.
On June 15, 1940, he married Betty Irene Lee in Idaho Falls. Together they had four children. He farmed in the Idaho Falls and Ririe areas. He also worked at the Idaho Falls Foundry.
In 1951, Merritt and Betty moved their family to Bedford. They owned and operated the Egan's Sinclair Service station in Thayne for 18 years. In 1968, Merritt and Betty opened Egan's Greenhouse in Bedford and operated it until 1999, when they retired and moved back to the Iona area to be nearer to their family. Betty passed away November 25, 200.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, rock collecting, growing tomatoes, and especially spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Ramon (Valoy) Egan of Jackson; Judy (Blaine) Clark of Iona, Idaho; Michael (Luann) Egan of Idaho Falls; his sister, Margie Stevens of Idaho Falls; nine grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Joan, tow grandsons; four brothers. and three sisters.
Funeral Services were held Monday, January 21, 2008. Burial took place in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery.
