RACER, Vernon F., 88, of N. Second Avenue, Paden City, W.Va., went home February 15, 2008, in Sistersville Center.

He was born November 1, 1919 in Friendly, W.Va., the son of the late Henry David Racer and Mary Elizabeth Thomas Racer.

He retired from Ormet Corp.; was a WWII Navy veteran; a United Methodist; a member of VFW Post 6327 in Sistersville; American Legion Post 86 in Paden City; and the Paden City Eagles Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Gale and Clinton "Pete" Racer; sisters, Vada Myers and Garnet Mercer; and grandson, David Scott Leister.

Surviving are his wife, Marjorie H. Michaels Racer; daughters, Shirley Hager of Bessemer City, N.C., Charlene Snider of Sistersville, W.Va., Christine Racer-Tippens of Middlebourne, W.Va., Rita Skelley of Friendly, W.Va. and Whitney Racer of New Martinsville, W.Va.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Bernice Racer of Moundsville, W.Va.

Friends received at the Myers Funeral Home, Sistersville Sunday 7-9 p.m.

Graveside service will be Monday, February 18, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Paden Memorial Gardens, Paden City with the Rev. Gary Boyd officiating, with military services by VFW Post 6327, Sistersville and American Legion Post 86, Paden City, American Legion Post 67, Sistersville, VFW Post 4634 and American Legion Post 28, both of New Martinsville.
