Sgt. Timothy Van Orman grew up in Port Matilda, Pa.,and attended Bald Eagle Area School band where he was a gifted musician and played trombone in the school's band. He was a dedicated student sounding the music for a Friday night football game or a parade. Tim was the kind of student who really poured his whole heart and soul into everything he did. He joined the Army in February 2003 and completed basic and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Ga. He was assigned to 1st BCT, the 'Warrior' brigade, in June 2003. Tim served in Afghanistan from August 2003 to May 2005 and also deployed to Iraq from August 2005 to July 2006. His military education includes the Warrior Leader Course and the Air Assault Course. His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation emblem, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Air Assault Badge. He is survived by his wife and daughter and his parents, of Port Matilda. He was killed in Iraq at age 24.
