RITES SATURDAY FOR J.M. GREENE
Heart Attack Fatal to Widely Known New Point Citizen - Had an Active Career

Funeral rites for John Milton Greene, 70, widely known New Point citizen, who died suddenly at 11:25 a.m. Wednesday of a heart attack, will be held at the New Point Christian church at 2 p.m. Saturday.

A prayer service will be held at the home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday preceding the church service. The Rev. Kenneth E. Thorne, pastor of the Greensburg Christian church, will officiate. The body has been taken to the home at the edge of New Point, where friends may call. It was announced that the casket will not be opened at the church. Burial will be made in the Rossburg cemetery. The Masonic order will give its ritualistic service.

A life-long resident of the New Point community, Mr. Greene was born there on December 13, 1870. He was the oldest of a family of nine children of Henry and Tamzon Marlin Greene.

For a period of 35 years John M. Greene operated a switch engine between the Puttmann stone quarry and New Point. After the quarries at New Point closed, he became an employee of the Decatur County Co-Operative Co., serving as manager of the New Point store for the past 15 years.

At the age of 14 years Mr. Greene joined the New Point Christian church and throughout his entire life he was an active member of that congregation, serving in many capacities. For many years he was soloist of the church choir. He was affiliated with the Masonic lodge at New Point and with Greensburg lodge No. 148, Knights of Pythias. His marriage to Miss Ida Hoff took place on May 15, 1909.

Surviving Mr. Greene are: his widow; four brothers, Charles Greene and Frank Greene, of Batesville, Garfield Green, of New Point, and Raleigh Greene, of Indianapolis; and two sisters, Mrs. Leal Freeland, of New Point, and Mrs. Mae Ketchum, of Lebanon. Two brothers are deceased; Henry Greene, of Sidney, O., and Harry Greene, of Dallas, Tex.
