Obituary from the Franklin Township Historical Scrapbook Collection:

RITES SATURDAY - WELL KNOWN NURSE, 57, DIES IN HOSPITAL - Mrs Helen E Brant, 57, 229 Howard Street, well - known Shelbyville registered nurse and wife of Robert Brant, died at Major Hospital at 1 PM Wednesday. She became ill at her home about 2 AM Wednesday and called her husband who was on duty at the Shelbyville Fire Department. She was taken to the hospital in the emergency ambulance and admitted about 5 AM. Death apparently was the result of a heart attack. Mrs Brant was born in Indianapolis on June 4, 1910, the daughter of Charles and Ivy Imel Smith. She was married to Robert Brant of Shelbyville on June 3, 1939. Surviving with the husband are two children, John R Brant II of Indianapolis and Mrs David (Anne Elizabeth) Hoyt of South Bend, and a sister, Mrs Lillian Elmer of Greensburg. Mrs Brant was graduated from Indiana University School of Nursing in 1931, and was the nurse in the offices of Drs W W and W R Tindall here for many years. For several years she was nurse at the local General Electric Company and Pittsburgh Plate Glass plant, after which she joined the nursing staff at Major Hospital where she was employed at the time of her death. Mrs Brant was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shelbyville, current president of the Women's Missionary Society of the church, superintendent of the church Cradle Roll, a member of the board of directors for the Baptist Youth Camp at Westport, and currently was serving as chaplain of Naamah Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. She also was a member of the Indiana Pioneers Society and a charter member of Zeta Lambda Tau Chapter of Delta Theta Tau Sorority. Friends may call at the Carmony Funeral Home in Shelbyville from 2 PM Friday until noon Saturday, and at the church after 1 PM Saturday. Order of Eastern Star services will be held at the funeral home at 8:30 PM Friday. The family requests that memorial tributes be in the form of donations to the Shelby County Heart Fund.
