A native of Weimar, Texas, he played at the defensive back (safety) position for seven seasons (1953 to 1959) in the National Football League with the Cleveland Browns. He was a member and key player on two NFL championship teams (1954 and 1955 Browns). In addition to playing defense, Konz served as an effective punt returner throughout his career. His other notable highlights include three-time selection to the NFL All Pro Team (1955 to 1957) and one Pro Bowl in 1955. After playing collegiate football at LSU, Konz was chosen by the Browns in the 1st round of the 1951 NFL Draft. He appeared in 84 regular season games during his career. (bio by: C.S.)
