PIONEER DRUGGIST DIED SATURDAY

Funeral services for Leeman Paul Barney, 68, who died at his home on East Main at 5:30 o'clock Saturday morning, were held at the Weir Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with Rev. F.M. Taylor in charge. Burial was in Hosey Hill cemetery, and Black Diamond Lodge No. 274 had charge of the services at the grave.
Mr. Barney was born in Cherokee, KS April 15, 1873 and moved to Weir with his parents when a small boy. At the age of 18 he began working in the Louis Bay Drug store, which he later purchased and operated until 1930 when the Allen Drug Co. was purchased, and it became the Barney and Fleming Drug Store.

Mr. Barney was a Past Master of the Weir Masonic lodge, was treasurer at the time of his death, which office he had held for a number of years. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Consistory and a member of the Eastern Star. He is survived by two sons, Paul Barney of the home and Frank Barney of this city; one brother, Dr. L.F. Barney of Kansas City, KS; and two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Sanders of Sand Springs, OK and Mrs. Jennie Dorsey of Bronaugh, MO.

More than 60 years a resident of Weir and a native-born son of the district, Leeman Barney has been associated in business on Main Street for more than a half-century. His passing last Saturday, on Homecoming Day in which he was always interested, brought a pall of sadness to the community which has known and esteemed him as a man of the highest integrity and character for so long. Active in community and fraternal organizations throughout many years, he will be greatly missed; and while the community sympathizes deeply with those near and dear to him, the community itself has felt the loss of one of its highly respected and useful citizens.
