Mr. Burgess was born October 18, 1928 in Panola County, to the marriage of Lewis David and Melvinie Donald Burgess. Youngest of seven children, he attended Beckville Schools and enjoyed the outdoors. Mr. Burgess served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army. He soon met Betty Wyatt and was married March 13, 1954 celebrating 53 years together. Mr. Burgess was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W, he liked to fish and loved to tinker with everything. He is preceded in death by his parents, sons, Billy Ray Burgess and Dale E. Burgess, siblings, James Burgess, Warren David Burgess and Viola Mae Cherry.
His survivors include loving wife Betty Burgess, of Carthage; daughters Teresa Burgess, of Carthage; daughter-in-law Ella Burgess, of Carthage; brothers L.D. Burgess, of Longview, and Travis Burgess, of Beckville; sisters Opal Walden, of Beckville; dear friend John Cheshire, of Carthage; grandchildren Jimmy Dale Burgess, of Beckville, Lacy Burgess and Bobby Burgess, of Henderson, Brandon Lee Burgess, of Beckville, Robbie Coleman, of Carthage and Gavin Burgess, of Carthage; great-grandchildren Brian Burgess and James Burgess.
