In the August 2nd 1950 issue of the Arizona Republic, there is an article describing his married life based in Japan as a pilot of a jet-propelled fighter bomber in the fiery skies over Korea: "I feel so sorry for Mary Ann being alone all day and then when I do come home I'm practically dead. It does seem strange, shooting people in the day and then coming home to a beautiful wife at night. Wars don't happen that way."
