Theodore John Funke, a life long Tipton county farmer who served on the ration board for the duration of World War 11, died at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday at Mercy Hospital, Elwood. He had been ill since September with a heart condition.
The 76 year old rural route 2 resident received a citation from the late President Franklin d. Roosevelt recognizing his service on the war time board.
Rev. Clement H. Funke, will officiate at last rites Friday at 10 a.m. at St. John's church. Rosary service is scheduled at 8 p.m. Thursday at Young's funeral where the body is lying in state. Burial is to be in St. John's cemetery.
A native of Milhousen, Indiana, he was born July 31, 1878 to John T. and Josephine (Weldam) Funke. One of eight children in the family, he was the last surviving member. He attended elementary school in Milhousen and completed his education at St. John's school in Tipton after moving here in 1888. On Oct. 21, 1903, Mary Christina Koors and Theodore Funke were married in Milhousen. They came to Tipton to make their home on the Funke homestead, east of Tipton. Eight children were born to the couple, and sever still are living. One son, Herman, is deceased. Surviving with the widow are the children, Miss Bertha funke, Joseph Funke, Mrs. A.A. Tragesser, John Funke, Mrs. elmer Ziegler and Mrs. Robert A. Biltz all of Tipton, and Rev. Clement Funke, of South Bend.
