She was born April 14, 1909, in Davenport, IA, the daughter of Harry Spracklin and Frieda (Ackerman) Spracklin.
She was united in marriage to Andrew Patrick Heffernen, June 21, 1943, in Davenport, IA. They made their home in Jesup, IA, where they owned and operated a gas station and neighborhood grocery store. Andy preceded her in death on February 1, 1990.
Dorothy was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court of St. Pius X #1714, in Jesup.
Mrs. Heffernen is survived by 2 sons, James (Carol) Heffernen of Cedar Rapids, IA, Thomas (Debra) Heffernen of Jesup, IA, 1 daughter, Kathleen (Duane) Burkholder of Ocala, FL and 3 grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 3 sisters and 1 son, Patrick Heffernen.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. – Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA with Rev. Kenneth C. Stecher officiating. Music was by Mr. Brett Hershberger and the St. Athanasius Choir. Burial was at St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery, Jesup, IA. Memorials may be directed to St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA.
