The funeral for Jan W. Sackett, 59, will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Stewartville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Kester officiating. A spring burial will be in Union Cemetery in Pleasant Grove.

Mr. Sackett, of rural Stewartville, died Wednesday (Jan. 23, 2008) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, following a brief illness with cancer.

Jan Winston Sackett was born Jan. 23, 1949, in Rochester. He grew up on the family farm, graduated from Stewartville High School in 1967, and graduated from Mankato State University with a degree in business. He farmed in rural Stewartville and was owner of Sackett Insurance Agency. He married Kathryn Lowrie in Stewartville, and they were later divorced. On Dec. 8, 1990, he married Mary Rollie at the family farm, where they had resided since. With his wife, Mr. Sackett owned the Bank Gift Haus, Margaret's Tea Room, and Gold Street Pizza and Grille, all in Wykoff. Mrs. Sackett is also an agent for All-Ways Realty; she survives.

Mr. Sackett was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Pleasant Grove; was a board member and past president of Rochester Farmers Insurance and Southeast Mutual Insurance Co.; and was currently serving as president of the Union Cemetery Association Board. He enjoyed traveling, vacationing in Branson, Mo., playing cards, going for stand-up morning coffee, and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his second wife, he is survived by a son, Abe (Kari) of Rochester; a daughter, Elizabeth (Jimmy) Gasten of Rochester; three stepdaughters, Gina Rollie of Cottage Grove, Minn., Jill Laures of Stewartville and Becky Rollie of Rochester; seven grandchildren; two brothers, and Richard (Belva) of Hastings, Minn., and David (Annette) of Stewartville. Other survivors include his stepmother, Eleanor (Earl) Lewis of Rochester; two stepsisters, Judy (Charles) Carl of Florida and Kay (Bob) Tegt of Austin; two stepbrothers, Gary Krofchalk of Dallas, Texas, and Jon (Paula) Krofchalk of Winona; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Sackett of Stewartville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyril and Betty Sackett; and a brother, Curtis.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Stewartville United Methodist Church; from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville; and an hour before the service Sunday at the church.
