Ernie was killed in a car accident in McCreary County Ky while on her way to the hospital where her son Clarence had just passed away in a VA Hospital.

Scott Woman Going To Town of Son's Death is Killed In Wreck A well-known Oak Grove woman traveling to where her son had died was herself killed in a grinding, head-on car-truck collision in Kentucky. Mrs. Ernie Coffey was fatally hurt and a daughter, Mrs. Ester Phillips of Oneida, escaped injury Wednesday afternoon, when the car in which they were traveling collided with a large truck near Parker's Lake, Ky. Mrs. Coffey and her daughters were enroute to Shelbyville, Ky. Where her son, Harold Coffey, 53, had died at a Veteran's hospital on Tuesday. The fatal accident was on Highway 27 about 30 miles north of Oneida. Rites will be held for both Mrs. Coffey and her son at Bethlehem Baptist Church at Oak Grove at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday). The dual services will be officiated by Rev. Roy Blevins. Burial for Mrs. Coffey will be in the Coffey Cemetery west of Oneida; and burial for Mr. Harold Coffey will be in Hazel Valley Cemetery south of Oneida. Mr. Coffey, 53, a former resident of Scott County, died at Louisville (Ky.) Veteran's Hospital on Tuesday evening after a long illness. He was a son of the late Robert Coffey. Harold Coffey was a veteran of World War II. His survivors include a sister, Mrs. Esther Phillips of Oneida; and a niece, Mrs. Robert Hancock of Youngstown, Ohio. Mrs. Coffey is survived by a daughters, Mrs. Phillips; two sisters, Mrs. Nila Dagley, Wartburg, and Mrs. Georgia Chitwood; one brother, Eldridge Litton of Knoxville; and a grandchild.
