SPRINGBROOK MAN VICTIM OF FIRE THERE SATURDAY
Fire at a house, thought unoccupied, in Springbrook claimed the life of Sheldon Ferguson early Saturday morning.
The Spooner Fire Department received an alarm after 4 p.m. Saturday. The department said the house was completely aflame, and nearly down, when it arrived at Springbrook. It was sometime later when it was learned Ferguson was in the building.
With Ferguson was a dog that also perished.
Sheldon E. "Skipper" Ferguson, age 22, a resident of Springbrook, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 1981, as a result of a fire at his home.
He was born on July 14, 1959 at Minneapolis, Minn. and had lived his entire life in Springbrook. He attended and graduated from Spooner schools.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Ferguson, Springbrook; three sisters, Kathy Hanacek, Spooner, Raynelle and Georgia Ann Ferguson, Springbrook; two brothers, Steven, Rice Lake, Anthony, Springbrook; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Ferguson, Springbrook, maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Scharlau, Rice Lake; paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Emil Racette, Minneapolis.
Memorial services were held on Monday, October 19, 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Springbrook, the Rev. Fr. Erwin Lafser officiated. Cremation took place at the Park Hill Cemetery, Duluth. Arrangements were handled by the Dahl Funeral Home, Spooner.
