She was born on October 28, 1914 in Abingdon, a daughter of Onie and Francis Guernsey Chance. She attended school in Abingdon, graduating from Abingdon High School in 1932. She married Reid Hickey in 1935, the father of her two sons, David (and Janice) Hickey of Abingdon and Michael (and Lorraine) Hickey of Galesburg.
She worked at several industries in Abingdon and Galesburg, retiring in 1976. She later married John Maglio in June of 1974. He died in January of 1990 of cancer.
Beside her two sons, Berniece is also survived by five grandchildren, Trisha McFall, Christy Woodard, Shawn Hickey, Kevin Hickey and Kimberly Erlandson; 10 great grandchildren; a stepson, John Maglio in Pennsylvania; four step grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Chance of Ormond Beach, FL.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Deacon Jim Haneghan and Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Tuesday at the chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Galesburg Rescue Mission, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of the donor's choice.
