Rude and his wife Donna, of Dexter; daughter, Marianne Carlson and her husband Daryl, of Paton; son, William (Bill) Rude and his wife, Jolene, of Grimes; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Glenn Rude and his wife, LaVon of Fort Dodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Ebon (Anderson) Rude; brothers, Ronald Rude and LeRoy Rude; sisters Thelma Claude and Eunice Tanner.
Howard L. Rude was born on Sept. 12, 1925 in Pocahontas. Howard served in the United States Army during WWII in the South Pacific. Howard was united in marriage with Frances McColley on Oct. 8, 1949 at Corpus Christi Church in Fort Dodge. After his WWII service, he was a member of the Army Reserves. He was recalled for active duty and was stationed at Camp McCoy during the Korean War. He was discharged in 1952. He was employed as the manager for Webster-Calhoun Cooperative Telephone Association for 43 years, retiring in 1991. He was a long term board member of the Rural Iowa Telephone Association. He was very active in the state and national telecommunication industry.
Howard was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, as well as a 60 year member of the American Legion Peterson Post #431, VFW and Kiwanis. He served on the Gowrie Volunteer Fire Department, and he was a member of the Gowrie Gauchos Drum and Bugle Corps. He served as the mayor of Gowrie from 1988 until 1991. He was a charter member of the Southwest-Webster Ambulance, serving for 11 years. He was a volunteer worker for the Trinity Regional Medical Center, and he drove the van for the Gowrie Care Center. He was a member of the Elderbridge Society, and he was an active member of OIL (Older Iowans Legislature).
Memorials may be left to the Southwest-Webster Ambulance and Trinity Regional Hospice.
