He was born Stephen George Ridzik in Yonkers, New York, he was a pitcher for twelve seasons (1950, 1952 to 1958, 1963 to 1966) with the Philadelphia Phillies, Cincinnati Red Legs, New York Giants, Cleveland Indians and Washington Senators. Ridzik made his big league debut on September 4, 1950, which was his only appearance that season for the National League Pennant-winning Phillies Team known as "The Whiz Kids". He enjoyed his most successful season in 1953 with the Phillies when he recorded nine victories. In 314 games, Ridzik won 39 and lost 38 with a lifetime 3.79 ERA. He died from heart disease.
