US Congressman. He was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 1931 and was the Commonwealth Attorney of Appomattox County, Virginia from 1932 to 1948. In 1948 he was elected as a Democrat representing Virginia's 4th District in the United States House of Representatives, filling the vacancy caused by the death of Congressman Patrick H.
