Seth was the son of Daniel Hurd II & Esther Maltbe. On January 2, 1782 in Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut, he married Anna Thankful Ray. To this union, 9 children were born. The names of the children of Seth and Thankful Hurd were as follows : Smith, Esther, Hannah, Edith, Joy, Comfort, Freedom, Harmon, and Isaac. Smith was married and had one child before coming to Ohio. He settled in the southern part of the township and afterwards moved to the center. He died in 1875 in his ninety-fourth year.
Seth and Anna moved to Ohio to make a living in farming. He was also elected township trustee in Southington, in 1817.
Seth served in the Revolutionary War and has a Revolutionary War marker on his grave.
