She was born in Wilburton, Oklahoma, to Stuard and Winnie (Wall) Patterson. She grew up in Wilburton until the age of 11 when her mother preceded her in death. She then continued her education at the Chilocco Indian School in northern Oklahoma, where she graduated valedictorian of her class. She married James Edward Brown on Oct. 5, 1935, in McAlester. They moved to California in 1943 and lived there for 30 years. They moved to Blanco in 1972 where they lived for 30 years. They then moved to McAlester in 2002. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of McAlester. She passed away at a McAlester nursing center at the age of 91. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Winnie and Donald Cooke, of McAlester; one son and daughter-in-law, Davis and Sandy Brown, Santa Clarita, Calif. Also, four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Lorene Dorsey, of Oklahoma City, Dorothy Spears, of Hartshorne, and Pauline Schofield, of McAlester, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Tom Patterson, John Patterson, Pete Schofield, Arthur Schofield, Allen Crockett and Aaron Todd. Honorary pallbearer will be Emery Spears. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 31, 2003, and her parents. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Brumley-Mills Chapel with the Rev. Steve Dennis officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
