Margaret Pearl "Peggy" Mahavier, 89, was born on January 19, 1918 in Clinton, Indiana and moved to Houston in 1936 to attend nursing school. She graduated from the Lillie Jolle School of Nursing in 1939. While attending nursing school, she met her husband of 50 years, James T. Mahavier. She was passionate about her profession and was an exceptional nurse. She refused to retire fully until the age of 78. She recently told family members that she never regretted one minute of being a nurse and caring for others.
"Granny", as she was known by all who loved her, was also selflessly dedicated to her family. She loved her daughters Judy, Janis and Jenny, their families and her very special niece, Melissa Davis, whom she considered a fourth daughter. Granny was an outstanding cook and also enjoyed playing cards, watching football (Aggies and Longhorns), baseball, gambling, traveling, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Granny was an inspiration to those who loved her and will be terribly missed. She always had a smile on her face. Her positive attitude, fun-loving and generous spirit can never be replaced but the lessons she taught on how to live life will last forever.
She is survived by two sisters, Barbara Brockman and Madge Wagner and husband Richard, her three daughters, Judy Farrar and husband Bill, Janis Sullivan and husband Mike, and Jenny Jackson and husband Ronnie, her beloved grandchildren John Sullivan and wife Alison, Steve Sullivan, Cathy Sullivan, Brian Farrar and wife Amy, Renee McCharen and husband Jeff, Jamie Jackson and Kali Jackson, and great-grandchildren Amanda and Benjamin Farrar, Jack and Kate Margaret Sullivan and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at the Chapel of Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home. Interment followed at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Peggy's name to the Good Samaritan Foundation of Texas.
