He served as Colonial Governor of Connecticut from 1766 to 1769. He was also a Connecticut Supreme Court Judge and a delegate to the Albany Conference. Pitkin had a reputation as a problem-solver and was known as a "Champion of Colonial Rights." He married Mary Woodbridge in 1724.
