Birth: Mar. 31, 1944
Death: Jan. 10, 2008

Musician. He is best remembered as the lead singer of the popular 1960s music group, The Fortunes. Formed in Birmingham, England, in March 1963, as a quintet, the group first took the name of The Cliftones before changing it to the Fortunes. With Allen in lead and on bass, Glen Dale on guitar and vocals, Barry Pritchard on guitar and vocals, and later drummer Andy Brown, and keyboardist David Carr, they went onto have several successful chart topping singles and albums. Some of their recordings include, "You've Got Your Troubles" "Summertime, Summertime", "Caroline", "Here It Comes Again", "This Golden Ring", "Storm In A Teacup", "Freedom Come, Freedom Go", and "Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again." They also recorded the song, "It's The Real Thing", which was featured in commercials for Coca-Cola products. During the 1970s after a few failed comebacks and some changes to bandmembers the Fortunes eventually ended up playing the British club circuit. In more recent years Allen himself continued to perform and record, even leading a nostalgia-oriented version of the Fortunes until he became ill. He died at his home in Coventry, England, after a battle with liver cancer. (bio by: K)
