John Worthington came to Kansas from Iowa with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Worthington in the spring of 1886. The family resided on what was known then as the Fred W. Thorp; farm, approximately two miles east of the new town of Haven. Soon after coming to Kansas, John and his younger brother, Ben, were employed by an Eastern Financial Company to geed cattle for the Burns and Bellamy Cattle Company, who had leased a section of land owned by Mr. T. J. Tobey of Adrian, Michigan. In the late 90's the company disbanded and John and Ben purchased the land from Mr. Tobey. The Worthington brothers were prosperous young farmers, and each had his own home on the land. John married Della Talladay from Martin, Michigan, in November, 1897, and resided in the Haven community until his death in April, 1939. Mr. and Mrs. John Worthington had one daughter, Gladys. She married Carl William. They reside in Have.
