Hall of Fame Major League Baseball Executive. Born in Springfield, Illinois, he served in almost every role in baseball except as a player and was the one responsible for the creation of baseball's greatest dynasty, the New York Yankees. Serving as the chief executive, he used trades, the development of talent through a farm system and the outright purchase of players to build the New York Yankee teams that would win 14 pennants and 10 World Series between 1921 and 1945. He was also credited for discovering future Hall of Fame players such as Honus Wagner, Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio. He died in Port Chester, New York, at age 85 and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1953.
