The El Reno Democrat. (El Reno, Okla. Terr.), Thursday, July 17, 1902
Aged Minister Gone to Rest.
The Reverend John S. Brown, father of Mrs. F.E. Gillette and of Judge Brown, died at his home in Lawrence, Kansas, Tuesday afternoon at one o’clock, aged 97 years. The Reverend Brown will be remembered by a great many El Reno people, having visited here a few years ago at which time he preached at the M.E. church. His granddaughter, Mrs. M.D. Libby, of this city, was with him on his 96th birthday and says that his mental faculties were remarkable for one of his age; that he remembered those he had met while on his visit here and made enquiry about many of them. Mrs. Gillette is with the Judge at Hobart, and owing to the obstruction of the railway at this place, this morning, it is not likely that she can reach Lawrence in time for the funeral.
