HOUSTON, Mr. Duane - Age 49, departed life on Tuesday, Jan 1, 2008 at his residence after a long battle with cancer with his wife and daughter at his side. Family hour 12:30PM Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Refuge Temple Church of Flint, G-4400 Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 1PM. Pastor Seon Thompson, officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12:30PM Wednesday. Mr. Houston will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2PM-8PM with special prayer service from 5PM-7PM Tuesday with Bishop Raymond Dunlap leading prayer.
Mr. Duane Houston was born March 4, 1958 in Flint, Michigan to Veria Neely and stepfather Charles Neely. Mr. Houston was a lifelong resident of Flint, attending Southwestern High School. Duane played football at Flint Southwestern High School as a wide receiver number 87 "Class of 1976". He was united in Holy Matrimony to Fannie Fay Houston on November 17, 1979 to this union 2 children were born. Duane was employed with Good Year Scott Tire Sales until he became ill. He was a truck driver and recon. He was formally employed at Coca-Cola for 8 1/2 years. Duane also was a machinist with Excel Corp in Fenton, MI until the business closed. He was a member and affiliate of Eliezer Apostolic Faith Church (Bishop R. and Mother Dunlap) and Church of Jesus Our Lord (Bishop W. and Mother Clark). Special prayer partner and supporter Elder Seon Thompson of Refuge Temple. Duane loved sports especially football, loving the Dallas Cowboys as his favorite team. He loved the bible scripture psalm 27. Duane enjoyed being with family and friends, he always made the room brighter when he was there. He was an outgoing people person. Everyone he came in contact with loved him. Duane was a kindhearted person whose presence was known, enjoyed and will be deeply missed.

Houston; grandson, LeQuine Jarrett, Jr.; granddaughter, Leiah Jarrett, all of Flint; mother, Veria Neely; father-in-law, Edward Dawson; 3 brothers, Larry (Jaseena) Neely, Charles Neely, Jr., all of Flint, and Angelo Houston of S. Bronx, NY; 3 sisters, Mary Neely Dye, Rita Foster, all of Flint and Cheryl Nichols of California; special nephews that are like sons, Eric and Larry Coffee, Lawrence Williams; special niece, Jaquetta Neely, all of Flint; 2 brothers-in-law, Gerald Dawson of Flint and Curtis Johsnon of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren father, LeQuine Jarrett, Sr.; godfather Bishop Clark; special godsons, Darrion Dye, Pierre Mosley, Donald Hamlin; goddaughter, Dequinda Coffee; god brother and sisters, Charles and Princess Gray, David and Venita Dudley, Doris Lloyd, Phillip and Tammie Lloyd, Willie Lloyd, Jr.; special aunt-in-law, Dana Haygood of Kansas; special cousins, Bobbie, Shirley, Tracy Mosley of Flint and Geri Clark; childhood friends, Eugene Braylock and Freddie Clark; special family friends, Tyrone Broadnex, Chris, Valarie and Sonya White, Leitha, Jimmy Turner (like a brother), Sammy Gray and Wanda Mullin; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family, friends and neighbors that were loved dearly by Duane.
Mr. Houston was preceded in death by his stepfather, Charles Neely; brother, Richard Neely 06; grandparents, Pat and Leitha Houston; mother-in-law, Leola Dawson; 1 niece; 1 nephew; 2 aunts; 1 uncle; special cousin, Elizabeth Mosley; godmother, Mother W. Clark; god brother, Rudolph Lloyd.
