Daniel was born in Preston, Victoria, Australia to Alexander Blennerhassett and Alice Mary Mouchemore.

Daniel was married to Meryle Puryer Davey of Kew, Victoria in 1933 in Australia.

Daniel served as a private in the 2/22nd Battalion, 23rd Brigade, 8th Division, Australian Army, Second Australian Imperial Force during World War II. He was taken prisoner by Japanese forces at Rabaul and killed in the sinking of the Montevideo Maru.
