BARBARA ANN (ESKEW, McVICKER, MERCHANT) PRITCHARD, 82, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at Kingston Care Center. She was born to Russell and Gertrude Eskew in Lapel, Ind.. After the premature death of her parents, she was adopted by Paul and Marjorie McVicker. She graduated from Marion High School and St. Vincent's School of Nursing. She married Robert B. Merchant in 1948 and moved to Fort Wayne. He died in a farming accident in 1968, and she later married John Charles Pritchard; he also preceded her in death. She had worked as an R.N. at St. Joseph Hospital, later, she worked as an R.N. with Dr. Walter Rissing, Proctologist. When Dr. Rissing retired, she became plant nurse at ITT on Pontiac Street, until retiring in 1985. She served as President of the Industrial Nurse's Association of Indiana. Barb and her husband, John retired on the golf course at Barefoot Bay, Fla., where she won many league championships and scored her famous hole-in-one. She is survived by three sons, Mark (Grace) Merchant of Cincinnati, Ohio, Bruce (Patrice) Merchant of Evanston, Ill., and Todd (Maggie) Merchant of Fort Wayne; one daughter, Barbara (Howard) Perino of Chicago, Ill.; one stepson, Dr. John (Lona) Pritchard of Fort Wayne; one sister, Maxine Good of Grayling, Mich.; and 13 grandchildren. In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by son, Kirk Merchant; and brother, James Eskew. An informal gathering will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church, 300 W. Wayne St., followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. Please bring any pictures and memories to share. Arrangements by Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home. Preferred memorials to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
