Carol M. Driscoll, 101, of Sycamore, Ill., formerly of the rural South Grove Township area, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, at Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center in DeKalb.
Born April 30, 1906, in rural South Grove Township, she was the daughter of Jesse and Edith (Allen) Driscoll.
She was a member of Sycamore United Methodist Church and formerly assisted the pastors by making visiting calls with them. She graduated from Jacksonville School for the Blind and then Wheaton College with a degree in English literature. She was certified as a proofreader by the Library of Congress for books written in Braille. She enjoyed music and was an accomplished violinist.
She is survived by a brother, John "Pete" Driscoll of Sycamore; three sisters, Wilma Kellogg, Gladys Zimmerman and Shirley Carter; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and seven sisters, Gertrude Butzow, Mabel Bailey, Vivian Willett, Virginia Woodward, Ruth Driscoll, Marilyn Day and Norma Lofgren.
A burial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at South Grove Cemetery near Kirkland. A remembrance service will be held at a later time in Bradt Chapel at Oak Crest.
A memorial fund is established for Sycamore United Methodist Church in care of Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, IL 60178.
