Enlisted in the US Army from Unity on 27 Sep 1814. Before he was even of age in Mr 1816, he sued Ira Ladd and Lowell Cram claiming that they had (on 16 Feb 1816) "with force and arms, took and carried away two cows" which were his property. The jury found them guilty and ordered that he recover $42. He lived in Unity, Charlestown and Newport.

The newspaper report of the marriage described them as Col. Elphalet Bailey of Unity and the widow Artemesia Locke of Charlestown.
