Palmer was the son of George Washington Roberts and Elvira Jane Denton. He married Ida Howard on March 6, 1888. He was a constable in Morgan County in the early 1900's.

His obituary which appeared in the Decatur Daily of Dec.12, 1940 is as follows:

B.P. ROBERTS DIES AT HOME

Berry Palmer Roberts died at 2:40 Thursday morning at his home, Sixth Street South, following an extended illness. He was 77 years of age.

Funeral rites will be held at 1:45 p.m. Friday at Johnson Chapel with Rev. W. C. Bates officiating. Brown, of Decatur, will be in charge of burial in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. The funeral procession will leave the residence here at 1 p.m. tomorrow.

Mr. Roberts is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Frank Howell, Johnson Chapel, Mrs. Velma McMillan, Nashville; Miss Mary Roberts, Decatur. Four sons, G. B. Roberts, Hartselle; J. H. Roberts, Birmingham; C. O. Roberts, Lawrence County, Willie Roberts, of Decatur; three grand children, 10 great grandchildren; a sister Mr. W. L. Sparkman of Hartselle; four brothers, T. E. and C. B. Roberts , Decatur; W. C. and G. E. Roberts of Hartselle.

Relatives will be pallbearers and flower girls. Mr. Roberts was a long-time resident of Decatur and was widely known.
