Funeral rites were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Anita for Peter N. Petersen, a well known farmer living northeast of Anita. Rev. Theo Hoelman of Adair was in charge of the service. Music was furnished by Beatrice Hopkins, Lorraine Plowman, Doris Vokt, and Joan Bireling. They sang at the Long's funeral home before the service "The Lord's My Shepherd" and at the church they sang "I Am But A Stranger," "Rock of Ages," and "Asleep in Jesus." Mrs. Gay Carsten was at the piano. Mr. and Mrs. Wes Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Phippen were in charge of the floral offerings. Casket bearers were Edgar Peterson, Clarence Just, E.G. Parker, Carl Bishop, Paul Barber and Floyd Dement. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Petersen had not been in the best of health for sometime. Two weeks ago, he was taken to the Atlantic Memorial Hospital for treatment of gangrene of his left foot which had been caused from his diabetic condition. Upon examination, he was found to be suffering from gas ulcers and he became worse the last week and on Sunday had hemorrhages of the stomach and passed away at 1:15 Monday morning.

Peter N. Petersen, son of Anton and Ann Petersen was born in Audubon, Iowa and moved to a farm near Audubon when he was a baby where he grew to young manhood and for a while, he and a brother farmed in Cass county before he was united in marriage to Rachel Gillpatrick Largey on August 30th, 1919. Since that time he and his family have lived in the Anita community and on March 1st, 1948 moved to the farm he purchased northeast of Anita known as the Newton farm. He was baptized as an infant in the Lutheran church. He is survived by his widow; one daughter, Mrs. William Claussen of Anita; one son, Anton (Tony) at home and one stepson, George Largey of Ruthven; three grandsons and four sisters, Mrs. Lena Jensen, Pasadena, Calif., Mrs. Mary Salomensen of Adler, Mont., Mrs. Christina Nelson, Brayton, Mrs. Martha Josephsen, Anita and four brothers, Arthur Petersen, Anita, Hans and Andrew Petersen, Marshall, Minn., Anton Petersen of Atlantic. –Anita Tribune, March 17, 1949
